Mass applying with the same generic CV to different roles shows employers you're not serious. Recruiters in Dubai receive hundreds of applications daily. If your CV isn’t tailored, it goes straight to the bin.
Customize your CV for each job. Highlight relevant experience, match your skills to the job description, and include keywords that fit the role.
Example:
If applying for a sales role, emphasize targets achieved, client management, and CRM tools. If applying for a customer support role, focus on communication, problem-solving, and empathy.
Not mentioning your visa status, current location, or availability in Dubai can make employers skip your profile entirely.
Always include your visa type (Visit Visa, Spouse Visa, Employment Visa) and whether you're currently in the UAE. Recruiters often prefer candidates already available locally.
Example:
Current Location: Dubai
Visa Status: Visit Visa (Valid until July 2025)
Available to join immediately
Submitting applications without a cover letter—or sending a poorly written one—is a major red flag. It shows lack of effort.
Write a short, sharp cover letter that explains:
Why you’re applying
Why you’re a great fit
What you know about the company
Keep it to 3 paragraphs max. Tailor it to each job, just like your CV.
Messy layouts, inconsistent fonts, long paragraphs, or CVs saved in Word instead of PDF make a bad impression.
Use clean, professional formatting. Stick to fonts like Calibri or Arial. Use bullet points, consistent spacing, and save as PDF.
Good formatting checklist:
Font size: 11–12 pt
Headers in bold
Bullet points, not long paragraphs
Max 2 pages
Mentioning a salary that’s too high (especially without UAE experience) or not aligning with the market rate can lead to rejection.
Research average salary ranges for your role in Dubai. Be flexible, especially if you're new to the region.
Tip: If you're asked to mention expected salary, give a reasonable range and say you're open to negotiation.
Applying for senior roles without experience, or applying for tech jobs without technical skills, is a waste of everyone’s time.
Target jobs that match your qualifications. If you're changing careers, explain that in your cover letter and be honest about learning.
Alternative Tip: Apply for entry-level jobs or internships first to break into the Dubai market.
Not addressing your lack of UAE or GCC experience (which many employers prefer) can cost you the job.
If you're new to the UAE, emphasize your adaptability and global experience. Mention transferable skills and any experience dealing with multicultural teams or Middle Eastern clients.
Example:
Though I am new to Dubai, I have 5+ years working with clients in the GCC market remotely and am confident in adapting quickly to local business culture.
You submit your CV and wait… and wait… and wait.
Follow up after a few days. A polite email shows initiative and reminds the recruiter of your application.
Follow-up sample:
“Dear [Hiring Manager's Name], I recently applied for the Sales Executive role and wanted to follow up to express my continued interest…”
Using terms like “dynamic,” “team player,” “go-getter” without proof is a waste of space.
Show your strengths with real results. Instead of “excellent communicator,” write:
"Handled 100+ daily customer queries and maintained a 95% satisfaction score."
Recruiters in Dubai almost always check LinkedIn. If your profile is outdated—or worse, missing—you lose credibility.
Update your LinkedIn with the same info as your CV
Add a professional photo
Ask for recommendations
Share industry-relevant content
Ignoring local customs or not dressing appropriately in interviews can ruin your chances.
Dress formally and modestly
Greet with “Salam Alaikum” or a polite “Good morning”
Show respect for hierarchy and be humble
Many companies use ATS software to scan CVs. If yours doesn’t include keywords from the job post, it gets filtered out.
Use keywords from the job ad in your CV. Don’t use images, graphics, or tables that ATS can’t read.
Example:
If the job ad says: “Looking for a Digital Marketer with SEO, SEM, and Google Ads skills” – make sure those exact phrases appear in your CV.
Even after getting an interview, many candidates don’t follow up – missing a chance to show enthusiasm.
Send a thank-you email the same day or next day.
Example:
“Thank you for the opportunity to speak with you today. I enjoyed learning more about the team and am excited about the role.”
Applying heavily during slow seasons like Ramadan, Eid, or December often leads to silence.
Apply before or after major holidays. In Dubai, hiring often peaks from January to April and again from September to November.
Randomly sending your CV to 50 companies daily without tracking or targeting won’t help.
Set a target (e.g., apply to 5 relevant jobs daily)
Maintain an Excel sheet to track applications
Prioritize quality over quantity
Skipping fields, not attaching documents, or ignoring instructions will lead to auto-rejection.
Double-check everything before submitting. Include your CV, cover letter, and required documents (passport copy, visa, certificates, etc.) if requested.
Relying only on international platforms while ignoring UAE-specific ones can reduce your visibility.
Use UAE-focused portals actively. While we won’t name third-party sites here, do prioritize platforms that focus on Dubai’s job market and government career portals.
Spamming recruiters on WhatsApp, LinkedIn, or calling repeatedly leaves a negative impression.
Be polite, professional, and respect their time. Send one message or email, and wait at least 5–7 days before following up again.
Faking job titles, degrees, or certificates is common—but it’s also easily exposed.
Always be truthful. Dubai employers verify backgrounds. A small lie can lead to blacklisting or even legal action.
Job hunting in Dubai takes time. Many candidates give up after a few weeks of no results.
Stay consistent. Update your CV, improve your interview skills, and apply smartly. The right job may be one application away.
If your job applications are getting rejected in Dubai, it’s not always because you’re not qualified—it might be because you’re making small but critical mistakes.
The good news? These mistakes are fixable.
By improving your CV, aligning with employer expectations, and applying smartly, you’ll significantly increase your chances of landing a job in Dubai.
